Giving Back: Rex’s Journey Into His Forever Home

Every once in a while, a dog’s story reminds us exactly why We Fix Sit exists — to give back to the rescue and foster community and help reduce the rehoming cycle. Rex is one of those dogs.

About 6–8 weeks ago, Rex ended up at Winnebago County Animal Services. I was asked if I could adopt him, and unfortunately, that just wasn’t an option at this point in my life. But doing nothing wasn’t an option either. So I did the next best thing — I reached out publicly through my social media channels, and a friend shared my contact information with the shelter. I wanted Rex to have support, structure, and a real chance at success.

Fast forward to this week, and I got the phone call we were all hoping for: Rex found his family.

Today, we had our first training session together.

Rex is a confident dog with plenty of energy and a big personality. He’s smart, aware, and ready to learn. During our session, we focused on the foundations that will help him thrive in his new home — walking politely on his leash, checking in with his handler, and regulating his emotions around people and other dogs. Rex responded beautifully. He was eager, engaged, and happy to work for his rewards.

This is the beginning of Rex’s transition into his forever home, and I’m honored to volunteer my time and services to support him and his new family. These early sessions matter. They build trust, structure, and confidence — the ingredients that prevent rehoming and create lifelong bonds.
